Government sources anticipate providing the ₹75,000 crore capital subsidy over the next 3-5 years, contingent upon installation pace and public demand. With only a few lakh solar rooftops currently installed, the success of the new scheme and installation timeframe remain uncertain.

A strong installation pace could prompt additional funds allocated during revised budget estimates. Initially, the scheme suggests an annual outlay of ₹15,000 crore over 5 years, with expectations of increased subsidy expenditure as the PM ‘Surya Ghar’ gains momentum, especially from its second year onwards.

To kickstart the scheme, the government has earmarked a ₹10,000 crore subsidy in the FY25 budget under the existing solar grid rooftop allocation. Once formally approved by the Cabinet, this existing scheme will be replaced by PM Surya Ghar.
